Atakum Population Surpasses 250,000 Mark.

Atakum, the pearl of the Black Sea, has rapidly grown to reach a population of 250,000. Atakum Mayor, Lawyer Cemil Deveci, announced this significant milestone, stating, 'Atakum becomes a source of inspiration with sustainable growth.'

According to the "Demographic Structure of Atakum - 2023 Report" prepared by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the population of Atakum, one of the prominent cities in the Black Sea Region, has exceeded 250,000. Mayor Cemil Deveci commented on this increase, saying, 'The growth in our population indicates the need for more effort on the part of local administration.'

Demographic Structure Report Examined

Mayor Deveci emphasized that the population increase in Atakum is directly proportional to the region's development, stating, 'We can correlate the observed population increase, especially in recent years, with sustainable development and effective management strategies. Atakum, with its quality local services, high living standards, and sustainable growth, attracts more people every day. In this context, we prepared a comprehensive study such as the 'Demographic Structure of Atakum - 2023' report.'

Mayor Deveci also added that Atakum has become a region preferred by people due to its contemporary urbanization and high living standards. 'Our population, which was 107,953 in 2008, has shown a steady increase every year thanks to the quality of our local services and the sustainable growth model. Our population, which rose to 215,633 people in 2019 with a 6.42% increase, reached 242,171 people in 2022. We will mobilize all our resources to ensure the balanced and continuous growth of our district. The population growth rates clearly show how attractive and dynamic our district is.'

Migration Data Analysis

Mayor Deveci also touched upon migration data from 2018 to 2022, stating, 'In the last five years, Atakum has received significant migration, especially from districts in Samsun and surrounding provinces.

As of 2022,

  • 122,259 people from Samsun districts,
  • 13,927 from Trabzon,
  • 13,712 from Ordu,
  • 7,707 from Amasya,
  • 6,906 from Tokat,
  • 5,160 from Artvin,
  • 5,126 from Giresun,
  • 4,968 from Rize,
  • 4,937 from Çorum,
  • 2,959 from Sinop have settled in Atakum.

This demonstrates how attractive Atakum is in terms of livability, contemporary urbanization, and service quality.
