TOROS TARIM KARADENIZ REGIONAL DIRECTORATE

Director: Özgür Güler

Toros Tarım Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., the flagship company of the Tekfen Chemistry Industry Group, primarily focuses on the production of plant nutrients (fertilizers). Engaged in the production of mineral fertilizers, water-soluble special fertilizers, and organic/organomineral fertilizers, the company holds 38% of Turkey's total installed fertilizer production capacity. As one of the largest entities in the sector, it secured the 52nd position in the Istanbul Chamber of Industry's list of Turkey's Top 500 Industrial Enterprises in 2019.

Toros Tarım manufactures various fertilizer types, including Ammonium Nitrate (AN), Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN), Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), and composite (NPK) fertilizers, in its three factories located in Ceyhan, Mersin, and Samsun. Additionally, the company produces inhibitors and water-soluble fertilizers. Toros Tarım fills the gaps in its production by importing fertilizer varieties not produced in-house, providing farmers with a comprehensive product range. The company also manufactures bags used in fertilizer packaging in its own facilities.

With the acquisitions of Toros Gönen Renewable Energy Inc. in 2019 and the establishment of Toros Meram Renewable Energy Inc. in 2020, Toros Tarım has become a significant player in Turkey's organic and organomineral fertilizer market. These investments involve the production of biogas and electricity through the fermentation of organic waste, as well as the production of solid and liquid organic fertilizers from waste that completes the gasification process. These endeavors showcase successful examples of the circular economy, addressing Turkey's need for organic matter in soil.

Toros Tarım supports its leadership in the fertilizer sector with a wide network of more than 1,250 dealers and authorized sellers nationwide. The company maintains a total storage capacity of 550,000 tons across Turkey to ensure the timely and uninterrupted delivery of its fertilizers.

Embracing an active role in agricultural processes since its establishment, Toros Tarım considers agriculture as a multifaceted process and has actively participated in it. In 2017, the company established Turkey's first plant nutrient Research and Development (R&D) center at the Mersin Production Facility with the aim of introducing technological innovations to Turkish agriculture and expanding its product portfolio.

In addition to its fertilizer activities, Toros Tarım has investments in port management, free zone operation, and fuel management under Tekfen Holding's Service Group.

Fertilizer Categories:

Classical Fertilizers:

Toros Tarım's classical fertilizers are developed to meet the basic nutritional needs of plants. Typically mineral-based, these fertilizers can have a significant impact on overall plant growth, root development, and yield. The various types of classical fertilizers produced in the Ceyhan, Mersin, and Samsun factories include Ammonium Nitrate (AN), Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN), Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), and composite (NPK) fertilizers.

Organomineral Fertilizers:

Organomineral fertilizers are products obtained by combining organic materials from both plant and animal sources with mineral fertilizers. Toros Tarım's organomineral fertilizers aim to enhance soil fertility by providing both organic and mineral nutrients to plants. These fertilizers are commonly used to support plant growth, improve soil structure, and retain nutrients for a longer duration.

Organic Fertilizers:

Organic fertilizers are derived from natural sources, applying organic materials directly to plants. Toros Tarım's organic fertilizers are used to improve plant nutrition and support soil health. Typically, these fertilizers include materials with high organic content, such as animal manure, plant residues, or compost.

Specialized Fertilizers:

Toros Tarım's specialized fertilizers are formulated to address specific needs of certain plant types, soil conditions, or growth stages. These fertilizers provide a more targeted use by addressing situations where plants require specific nutrients. For example, specialized fertilizers formulated for specific vegetables, fruit trees, or flowers fall into this category.

Each type of fertilizer is designed to meet various needs in agriculture and is presented to farmers to be effectively used in the plant growth process.

R&D Center:

Toros Tarım, viewing agriculture as a fundamental part of the food chain, has embraced an active role in agricultural processes since its establishment. The company aims to expand its product portfolio and introduce technological innovations to Turkish agriculture. In 2017, Toros Tarım established Turkey's first plant nutrient Research and Development (R&D) center at the Mersin Production Facility.

The R&D Center conducts scientific studies to meet the demands and needs of the sector. Focused on developing new products that enhance efficiency in plant nutrition using new technologies, the center was approved by the Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology in August 2017. The center adds value to the sector through product development, improvement of existing products, and process improvement efforts.

Formulation and development activities carried out in the R&D Center aim to diversify Toros Tarım's existing product portfolio and strengthen it with new products that contribute to the efficiency of farmers. The center is involved in projects such as developing specialized fertilizer varieties and producing products not manufactured in the country. The R&D Center also conducts studies to increase the physical and chemical efficiency of existing products. Goals of the R&D Center include the improvement of production processes, optimization, energy efficiency in production, and reduction of environmental impacts.
